Archaeological site Stobi: Echoes of an Ancient Metropolis

North Macedonia’s most significant archaeological site, Stobi was once the capital of Roman Macedonia Secunda. The site features stunning floor mosaics, a Roman theater, and grand basilicas.

How to Get There

  • By Car:
    80 km south of Skopje, 1 hour 15 min via E75 highway
  • By Bus:
    Ask to be dropped at Stobi turn-off on Skopje-Gevgelija route
  • By Tour:
    Many wine tours include Archaeological site Stobi

  • The Baptistry Mosaics:
    Stunning 4th-century peacock and deer mosaics
  • Episcopal Basilica:
    Long mosaic floor with geometric patterns
  • Ancient Theater:
    2nd-century AD, seated 7,600 spectators
  • Synagogue Basilica:
    2nd-century synagogue converted to church

Where to Eat

  • Stobi Winery Restaurant:
    Modern restaurant near site, open 10 AM – 6 PM
  • Lazar Winery:
    Just oposite of the arheological site, open 10AM – 8PM
